Why we titrate in somatic therapy

Our systems are organized the way they are for a reason.

Change is a slow process.

This goes against everything we hear in our culture.

We want more and faster.

In somatic therapy, titration is the process of working bits at a time so the nervous system does not become flooded.

So the body can feel what it did not feel before- from the inside out.

So the body can actually integrate and heal.

If you feel resistance to this concept of going slowly, you are not alone.

There are parts of me that scream about it sometimes - “how dare you tell me how to do something! Fast is how I work. Fast is who I am. I thrive on intensity.”

There are parts of you that may even feel scared or unsafe by going slowly.

In my therapy office, we welcome the resistance.

Come on in.

I would love to meet you.

And hear your story.

What has it been like for you out there?

What’s it like for you in here right now?

Where are you in the body?

Can we hang out with you and get to know you better?
